FSA's LFP page states the rule: applications must be submitted by March 1 following the end of the calendar year in which the loss occurred. For losses in 2026, that is March 1, 2027.
You don't have to wait for the deadline. Once your county is on the list for your pasture type, you can apply at your county FSA office. Early filing gives time to round up leases, inventory and acreage records if the office asks for more.
Two related USDA livestock programs use the same date. The Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP, for death losses above normal) and ELAP (feed, water hauling and some grazing losses LFP doesn't cover) both have a final date of March 1 after the program year.
Not every deadline is the same. FSA's annual acreage report (FSA-578) is required for LFP, and acreage reporting dates vary by crop and county. Ask your office for the dates that apply to you.
Cownty's calendar shows a date as firm only when an official page posts it, with a link. Anything else says "confirm at source". FSA decides eligibility; this page is information only.
